I fear Sony is burning PS5 bridges with its most loyal gamers
At the beginning of this generation, it seems that all that must be done Sony is just staying and will end up again with Playstation 5. History proves that it can be difficult to do, because winners in one generation sometimes become a loser later. For example, consider that the PlayStation 2 – the best-selling game console of all time – followed by the PS3, the console that struggles from the beginning and ultimately only managed to penetrate even with the Xbox 360. Which is better – and more dramatic – the example is a wii bomb that follows 100 million Sell Wii.
In short: we have seen the rode platform holders successfully stumbled on the following generations at least several times before, and with PS5, Sony might do it again. While PS4 was not touched in the previous generation, now Sony seems to be at risk of sinking all the intentions of both consumers built during generation development thanks to controversial and greedy decisions that make the direction of PS5.
Obviously, the latest example of this is a disaster of cross-genuge upgrades with Horizon Forbidden West. Initially, those who want access to the PlayStation 4 version and Playstation 5 of the match were told that they had to buy a Digital Deluxe, collector, or Regalla edition of Horizon Forbus West. That, in turn, means that the player who wants both versions will be stuck to spend at least $ 80.
Sony again made the decision after the pushback of fans, announced on weekends that the cross-genuge upgrade for Horizon Forbidden West will now be free and increase cross-genes for the next Playstation game – the next God Turismo 7, and every other cross-gen game announced Sony – Will be $ 10 each.
That of course was an increase from Sony’s initial plan, but still a little heard that Sony would charge $ 10 for cross-genuge upgrades after Horizon prohibited the west. Smart delivery Microsoft makes the Sony cross-gene strategy look greedy, even with a commitment to charge only $ 10 for upgrading. You would think that Sony would see what Microsoft did with smart delivery and wanted to follow it, but it seems, the company thinks the reputation of the Playstation is strong enough to face any effect that comes along with nickel and reduces things like the next upgrade.
Then we have a declaration “we believe in the generation” of Jim Ryan who has not been aged at all. On May 2020 – six months before the Playstation 5 was launched – Interactive Entertainment President Sony and CEO Jim Ryan sat for an interview with GamesIndustry.Biz where he seemed to say that Sony was not interested in making PS5 games playable on PS4 too:
One way to keep PS4 users get involved is to create a PS5 game that will be played on a longer machine, as suggested by Microsoft with the Xbox Series X Games that can be played on the Xbox One. But Ryan said it was not something interesting to do.
“We always say that we believe in generation. We believe that when you go to all the difficulties to make the next gen console, that it must include features and benefits that do not include the previous generation. And that, in our view, people must make the game can take advantage of those features.
“We believe in the generation of generations, and whether it is a dualsense controller, whether it’s 3D audio, whether it’s some way SSD can be used … We think that it’s time to give a playstation community something different, something different, it’s really just Can be enjoyed on PS5. “
Sony clearly shifted his strategy when Jim Ryan said it. Announcement that the next god of war will also be available on PS4 surprise many people because after the Western Horizon is confirmed as a cross-gen game, it looks like God will become one of the first true PS5 games. (Next to Ratchet & Clank is fantastic: separate rift).
