Xiaomi MIUI Pure Mode can optionally block sideloading Android apps

The opening of Android does not come without a price, and one of the most cited costs is security. Unlike Apple walled garden, Google has a hard time completely rejecting the installation of third-party sources applications through APK. The Android manufacturer could only encourage developers and users to sponsor the Google Play store, but the final decision is ultimately, in the hands of users. Xiaomi, however, could be testing a way to give Google a hand with a pure Miui mode that makes it a bit more difficult to sideload those applications.

Google will probably never be able to close the side loading door on Android, especially since it would be possible to create ROMs from third parties that allow the experience anyway. In fact, some manufacturers, such as Samsung, have their own application stores that depend on this functionality, although in a more sanctioned way compared to, say, the open source repository F-android application. That said, even the original equipment manufacturers are very aware of how the open mechanism can sometimes work against them if users are not aware of the hazards they represent.

Xiaomi is apparently working in a pure mode for his personalized Android Miui experience that adds some protection at the top of the Android security model. Android already warns users about the installation of third-party sources applications by default, but it is almost too easy to refer that by playing through warnings. MIUI pure mode could fulfill that policy and allow users to intentionally disable if they want and at their own risk.

Pure mode, however, has another key element that is both subtle and probably more critical. Any installation process that happens in the background will be blocked, which is often the method used by malware developers and hackers.

As always, this pure mode can be deactivated, although the information does not mention whether the two functions can be controlled independently from each other. The function is currently in the test phase in China, and there is no word yet about whether it will reach the Global MiUI version in the long term.
