The amount of digital content that we make today also means there is a number of content that is equally large or even greater that we get day after day. Once upon a time, it will result in a messy desktop or workspace with icons, but the days are translated into countless files, downloads, screenshot, and others. Although it is not exactly organizational tools, the Tote Chrome OS feature allows you to quickly access the most important or most recent items in your Chromebook, easily ignore the chaos that grow in other parts of the system.

Google introduced Tote back in March as a luxurious name for what has become the current feature of “shelves” in many operating systems. In short, this is a place to inhibit sometimes temporary items such as files that have recently downloaded. Today’s announcement, however, revealed that you can save almost everything you need quick access to the shelf.

Tote is mainly designed to be something like a sophisticated clipboard to access screenshot. Because Google added a document scanning to Chrome OS last April, the scanned documents also went there too. While the last five screenshot can also be accessed from an ordinary clipboard, the tote brings the advantage that the annotation you make in the screens’ catch is automatically stored there too.

You can also easily access the latest downloaded files from the tote, but maybe there are times when you want certain files always available with a few clicks as needed. Fortunately, you can enter the file to the tote and make it always appear at the top, ready to be dragged and drop into any document you are working on.

Shelves like Tote have become a tool that is almost indispensable in placing several bookings for the chaos of dozens of downloaded files, screenshot, and scanned documents. Because this is a chrome os built-in feature, it is highly integrated into the platform, or at least it will be integrated soon. Google plans to introduce the download status indicator to the file on the tote, the same indicator you will immediately see on the Chrome OS shelf itself.
