The mobility of IAA 2021 show is currently taking place in Munich, which allows global automakers to show their latest products and concepts in person.

VW says that the Id.Life concept is the first MET-based car (Modular Electric Drive Matrix) that has a front traction.

It is powered by an electric motor of 172 kW (around 230 HP) that allows you to accelerate 62 mph from a stop at 6.9 seconds. Its 57 kWh battery offers a WLTP range of 400 km or approximately 249 miles.

The concept body is made of sustainable materials, even in the transparent layer, where VW used wooden chips as a natural coloration agent.

The roof parts and the front are made of 100% recycled bottles of pets, and in the interior, the wood is combined with Eco Art2 on the instrument board, upside down and door edge. Automobile tires are partially made of bio-oil, natural rubber and rice husks.

The cameras and a visualization system have replaced the traditional indoor and outdoor mirrors, and the controllers control various vehicle functions using a touch panel on the Yugo style steering wheel.

Game in

VW says that the id.life is a “reliable companion for digital experiences of various types”.

Here, that means that the interior of the car has a game console and a projector, with a screen that extends from the DASH panel.

A power supply of 230 volts / 16 amps is on board to provide juice for other devices. Automobile seats are designed to accommodate media lounge functionality, since the front and rear seats can be folded completely flat, allowing cinema seats or even a bed that measures two meters in length.

Volkswagen plans to launch the automobile in 2025 with prices starting around € 20,000 (around $ 23,700 / £ 17,000). For comparison, the ID.3 of the brand, which is currently its cheapest EV, starts a little more than € 35,000 / £ 29,635 (around $ 41,000).
