The sleek Vision FK concept only emits water, as Hyundai bets big on hydrogen

Hyundai has announced its “Vision of Hydrogen 2040”, which aims to bring the technology of hydrogen fuel cells to the mainstream in 2040.

To help illustrate that goal, the automaker showed a new automobile of hydrogen performance called Vision FK.

While most car manufacturers, including Hyundai, are developing new electric vehicles, the Korean automaker will also go ahead with hydrogen fuel cell technology.

In the online forum of Hydrogen Wave, Hyundai established its vision of “popularizing hydrogen by 2040 through the introduction of new technologies and transportation mobility solutions and other industrial sectors.”

What does that mean? First, the automaker will change all your commercial vehicles to hydrogen fuel cell technology or electric battery technology for 2028. Beyond that, you plan to develop a new fuel cell vehicle to a comparable price point To that of an EV for 2030.

Vision FK is a high performance car

The Vision FK is a high performance car with a total output of around 670 horsepower. Hyundai says that the vehicle can reach a time of 0-62 mph less than four seconds.

Maybe the most exciting part of the car is its source of power. While the hydrogen fuel cell is what the headlines does, the car also has a plug system and a rear traction. Together, the system offers a range of more than 372 miles.

Hydrogen fuel cell cars are an interesting group, but are largely unknown to many car buyers outside of limited geographical areas.

Unlike electrical cars, which sometimes require long load sessions, fuel refueling hydrogen fuel cells are like refueling a traditional gas vehicle.

Without obtaining too technical, the hydrogen is combined with the oxygen of the air to make water. During the process, electricity is generated and used to feed an electric motor. Instead of emissions from a gas engine, the only byproduct is water.
